An entire family walked past me yesterday at my favorite thrift, and they started to pick dresses off the racks and adding commentary. Dropping hints that the stuff was there because it was both ugly and dirty. “That’s a poop stain.” There was an entire group of them. All ages. Maybe in town because of the holiday. A little awkward with each other.

I just found it to be really bad form.

It doesn’t take much imagination to understand that a certain section of the clientele is there because they don’t have $100 for a coat. $200 for a new chair. $30 for a new book. Retail is not an option.

Thrift stores are a screaming bargain in a country where people buy a lot they don’t need, and a larger chunk can’t afford protein at the grocery store.

So maybe, have a little respect when you’re out and about.

Especially, you know, at Christmas.
